A girl speaks out against slut-shaming

There’s a great video on YouTube called “Slut Shaming and Why It’s Wrong.” In it, an incredibly articulate and intelligent thirteen-year-old girl (Sarah) explains why it’s wrong to criticize and look down on women for having lots of sex or having sex with lots of partners.

My favorite line is “If you’ve given your consent, if you’re emotionally and physically ready for it, if you’re using proper protection, and if you feel safe and comfortable with your partner… then sex is good!” That’s what I keep saying!

As fantastic as this video is, I will say that I think this message will have more meaning coming from someone who has actually experienced sex. Not that what Sarah says is at all mistaken, but I think her conviction and ability to convince others will deepen as she gains a more personal understanding of the subject matter. Still, it is a treat to see young minds with this level of maturity and good sense.
